A beautiful vintage banjo from the Bacon Banjo Company. This is a rare Montana Special XX.
This is a gorgeous vintage banjo from Bacon & Day. It is likely from the 1920s, because it has the “no holes” Silver Bell tone ring. The banjo has been partially restored, and had had its hardware plated. It has a reproduction arm rest (with some wear from usage), but the original, nickel arm rest is in pretty good shape, and it is included (without the plating).
The banjo has wonderful carved inlay on the ivoroid fret board and head stock. And the heel carving is finished to look like tooled leather. The tuners are a modern geared model, that is plated to match, and the bracket hardware is an interesting combination of nickel and gold that looks nice.
The tailpiece is a vintage Richelieu “bear claw” model that is nearly identical to the Oettinger that would have originally been on the banjo. It is also gold plated, but you can see that the plating doesn’t match exactly with the rest of the hardware.
This is a great playing banjo. I have played it in many sessions, and really enjoy it. If feels very much like my Silver Bell NE Plus Ultra #6. This could easily be your dream banjo, at a reasonable price!
